ITV - The Royal - The Cast

The Doctors

Mr Rose (Denis Lill)

The Royal's surgeon is the pipe-smoking, golf-loving, Mr Rose: a rather gruff man, who is a stickler for timekeeping and getting things right, which may have something to do with his military past. A proud man, he is annoyed when he finds himself unable to operate on his own in-growing toenail and has to ask the assistance of a woman (Dr Weatherill). We also see a softer side to Mr Rose when his niece, Nurse Samantha Beaumont arrives and he is discreetly quite protective of her.

Born in New Zealand in 1942, Denis Lill has a long television career which began in 1964 in an episode of Crossroads, where he played Adjutant White-Gibson. Military roles must suit Denis, as he then went on to play Captain and later Major Alfred Slingsby in The Regiment. Other television appearances include Rock Follies in 1976, another military role in Mapp and Lucia, as Major Benjy Flint and probably one of his most famous roles as Alan Parry, Cassandra's father in Only Fools and Horses
